    Cascaded 3D Full-body Pose Regression from Single Depth Image at 100 FPS

    There are increasing real-time live applications in virtual reality, where it plays an important role in capturing and retargetting 3D human pose. But it is still challenging to estimate accurate 3D pose from consumer imaging devices such as depth camera. This paper presents a novel cascaded 3D full-body pose regression method to estimate accurate pose from a single depth image at 100 fps. The key idea is to train cascaded regressors based on Gradient Boosting algorithm from pre-recorded human motion capture database. By incorporating hierarchical kinematics model of human pose into the learning procedure, we can directly estimate accurate 3D joint angles instead of joint positions. The biggest advantage of this model is that the bone length can be preserved during the whole 3D pose estimation procedure, which leads to more effective features and higher pose estimation accuracy. Our method can be used as an initialization procedure when combining with tracking methods. We demonstrate the power of our method on a wide range of synthesized human motion data from CMU mocap database, Human3.6M dataset and real human movements data captured in real time.     Anonymous and Adaptively Secure Revocable IBE with Constant Size Public Parameters

    In Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) systems, key revocation is non-trivial. This is because a user's identity is itself a public key. Moreover, the private key corresponding to the identity needs to be obtained from a trusted key authority through an authenticated and secrecy protected channel. So far, there exist only a very small number of revocable IBE (RIBE) schemes that support non-interactive key revocation, in the sense that the user is not required to interact with the key authority or some kind of trusted hardware to renew her private key without changing her public key (or identity). These schemes are either proven to be only selectively secure or have public parameters which grow linearly in a given security parameter. In this paper, we present two constructions of non-interactive RIBE that satisfy all the following three attractive properties: (i) proven to be adaptively secure under the Symmetric External Diffie-Hellman (SXDH) and the Decisional Linear (DLIN) assumptions; (ii) have constant-size public parameters; and (iii) preserve the anonymity of ciphertexts---a property that has not yet been achieved in all the current schemes

    Microbial community pattern detection in human body habitats via ensemble clustering framework

    The human habitat is a host where microbial species evolve, function, and continue to evolve. Elucidating how microbial communities respond to human habitats is a fundamental and critical task, as establishing baselines of human microbiome is essential in understanding its role in human disease and health. However, current studies usually overlook a complex and interconnected landscape of human microbiome and limit the ability in particular body habitats with learning models of specific criterion. Therefore, these methods could not capture the real-world underlying microbial patterns effectively. To obtain a comprehensive view, we propose a novel ensemble clustering framework to mine the structure of microbial community pattern on large-scale metagenomic data. Particularly, we first build a microbial similarity network via integrating 1920 metagenomic samples from three body habitats of healthy adults. Then a novel symmetric Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) based ensemble model is proposed and applied onto the network to detect clustering pattern. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of our model on deriving microbial community with respect to body habitat and host gender. From clustering results, we observed that body habitat exhibits a strong bound but non-unique microbial structural patterns. Meanwhile, human microbiome reveals different degree of structural variations over body habitat and host gender. In summary, our ensemble clustering framework could efficiently explore integrated clustering results to accurately identify microbial communities, and provide a comprehensive view for a set of microbial communities. Such trends depict an integrated biography of microbial communities, which offer a new insight towards uncovering pathogenic model of human microbiome.Comment: BMC Systems Biology 201

    D mesons in matter and the in-medium properties of charmonium

    We study the changes in the partial decay widths of excited charmonium states into DDˉD \bar{D}, when the D meson mass decreases in nuclear matter, taking the internal structure of the hadrons into account. Calculations within the 3P0 model for ψ(3686)\psi(3686) and ψ(3770)\psi(3770) imply that naive estimates of the in-medium widths based only on phase space are grossly exaggerated. Due to nodes in the wave functions, these states may even become narrow at high densities, if the D meson mass is decreased by about 200 MeV. For the χ\chi states, we generally expect stronger modifications of the widths. The relevance of the χ\chi widths for J/ψJ/\psi suppression in heavy ion collision is discussed.     Influence of culture age on exopolymeric substances from common laboratory bacterial strains: a study on yield, profile and Cu(II) biosorption

    Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) produced by laboratory strains Bacillus cereus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were extracted from cultures incubated at various incubation periods (24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 h). At each sampling time, the EPS were analysed for yield, quality, functional groups present, and their efficacies in copper (Cu(II)) biosorption (using 30 and 50 ppm EPS). Results revealed that EPS yield was influenced by incubation period, with 48-h culture of B. cereus and 96-h culture of P. aeruginosa producing the highest yield of EPS at 8.30 mg and 6.95 mg, respectively. The EPS produced at various incubation periods have similar characteristics in solubility, quality and major functional groups (C-O, CH3, C=C, O-H) present. Efficacy of Cu(II) biosorption was influenced by the amount of EPS used and the EPS-metal incubation time. Although Cu(II) removal was higher for EPS from 24-h B. cereus (18.96%) and 48-h P. aeruginosa (19.19%) when 30 ppm was used, application of 50 ppm EPS demonstrated no distinct differences in amount of Cu(II) removed. This suggested that higher biomass of EPS used and longer EPS-metal incubation period, superseded the efficacy of EPS from various incubation periods
